Vidraru Dam

Vidraru Dam sits at the confluence of the Argeș River with the Capra and Buda Rivers.

The dam was built between 1960 and 1965 on the Argeș River for electricity generation, and is considered a feat of engineering. The construction of the dam was an extraordinary project and claimed the lives of 80 workers during its five years of construction. To raise the dam, 42 km of underground tunnels were dug to remove 1,768,000 cubic meters of rock. Upon completion, the dam was the fifth largest in Europe and the ninth largest in the world. It is 166.6 meters high and 307 meters long.

The huge lake with a volume of 465,000,000 cubic meters of water was created by the dam, its length is 14 km, its width is 2.2 km and its maximum depth is 155 meters, located at an altitude of 830 meters above sea level. Boat trips are organized on the lake and you can rent various boats or sail on a tourist boat.
