Râșnov Fortress – a historical gem in the heart of the Carpathians. Built between 1211-1225, the fortress served as a refuge for the local residents during invasions and provided them with protection thanks to its impressive walls and strategic view. Among the secret passages and ancient rooms you will discover fascinating legends, such as the story of the deep well dug over years by Turkish captives in exchange for their freedom.
The fortress is visible from wherever you drive towards Râșnov and many stop at roadside stands to take pictures with the fortress from afar. The fortress is one of the perfectly preserved fortresses, underwent renovations in 2010 and was opened to the general public for independent visits to the beautiful place. In the preserved fortress houses there are now shops selling souvenirs, throwing swords and knives like the knights of old, a shop for lucky stones, knights’ clothing and more. At the top of the fortress you can take pictures with all the beauty of the area seen in its glory from the high place.
