Bear Sanctuary
On the tour, you walk with the guides along paths near the fences. Signs display the names of the bears and the date they arrived at the reserve, and the guides tell the stories of some of the bears – where they came from, in what condition and how they now live in the reserve.
The visit is suitable for all ages, the reserve presents the “happy ending” of the story – the well-groomed bears against the backdrop of beautiful green nature, enjoying food and care.
The reserve is not a zoo, but a shelter for the rehabilitation of bears that have been saved from abuse and confinement – some came from circuses or small cages in zoos, some were shown to the public at tourist sites (in the past, for example, one of the bears was shown near the Peles Palace!) and so that they would not be dangerous, they would be blinded, drugged, etc.
The reserve does the bears a favor and allows them to live freely and receive medical treatment. The bears cannot be returned to the wild, they are too injured and will not be able to adapt, but here they are treated and of course no longer suffer from confinement and abuse.
