The journey begins early in Bucharest, and we will continue northwest through rolling hills and picturesque villages. Your first stop is the historic Curtea de Arges Monastery. As you explore the interior of the monastery, you will marvel at beautiful frescoes and royal tombs, and learn about Romania’s rich history and traditions.
Afternoon
Continuing the journey, you will make your way towards the Transfagarasan Highway – one of the most scenic routes in the country. As you climb higher into the Carpathian Mountains, keep your camera ready. Along the way, we will see the Poenari Castle, the “real” Dracula’s castle as featured in Bram Stoker’s famous novel “Dracula.” To reach the castle, visitors must climb 1,480 steps. It is common to see wild bears on the side of the road, especially where the forest meets the asphalt. Watching these magnificent animals from the safety of your car is an exciting and unforgettable experience, offering a rare glimpse of wildlife in their natural habitat.
Late Afternoon
The highlight of your trip is the Vidraru Dam. Standing on top of the dam, you will enjoy panoramic views of the vast reservoir and dramatic mountain scenery.
